PALMETTO RAILWAYS WILL SUPPORT THE NAVY BASE INTERMODAL FACILITY (NBIF) OPENING IN 2025. THE NEW FACILITY WILL GREATLY ENHANCE SC PORTS' RAIL COMPETETIVENESS.

INTERMODAL RAIL ACCOUNTS FOR APPROXIMATELY 23% OF ALL CONTAINERIZED CARGO MOVED THROUGH PORT OF CHARLESTON.

The South Carolina rail system supports an estimated 339,700 jobs, $15.4 billion paid in income and output of $56.8 billion across the state. The vast majority of these jobs arise from businesses that use rail transportation. These rail-operations and rail-user impacts include the direct and multiplier impacts associated with those firms that handle freight and rail related services.
